BURJ KHALIFA in DUBAI, UAE

Yoshiaki Yuki’s two large scaled paintings were installed in At.mosphere which was launched on the 122nd floor of the world‘s tallest building Burj Khalifa. His two large scaled paintings were selected for its private dinning and lounge. On one of two paintings, “Illumination,” Yuki depicted a man preserving the light illuminating from the bowl of fire above. This figure was originated from deformed calligraphic character Hikari [光], meaning illumination or brightness in Japanese. Similarly, the other painting shows a fortunate person causing the wind to blow. As its title, it was from the character of “Breezing” or Kaze [風]. “If the right breeze is blowing your way, your are sure to have a great day,” Yuki stated. These two paintings, 94 inches high by 94 or 118 inches long, were painted with red pigments and sumi on Japanese paper mounted on multiple panels. His dynamic brush strokes and a rich color of red on large scale paintings infused passion and vitality into the extraordinal dinning space in the extremely technologically-sophisticated building.

Yoshiaki Yuki has been exploring the unique calligraphic art form that he has named “Ji-Sho-Ji-Ga.” He depicted his vision of ancient Chinese and Japanese calligraphic characters, which are represented in the form of symbols and pictures. He addressed not only to trace to gather inspiration not only from these characters’ meanings, but also from their shape and form.

Burj Khalifa was inaugurated in January 2010 as the world’s tallest building and Dubai’s most iconic tower.
